INTRAsurg 1000 Air: Rotational and reciprocal bone preparation in conjunction with SONICflex bone
Programmed operation
Every dental implant procedure has a surgical sequence for which the individual steps are planned thoroughly in advance.
So doesn’t it make perfect sense to program the settings for these sequences in detail beforehand so they can be called up whenever they are needed?
For when you need everything to go according to plan. With KaVo INTRAsurg 1000 / 1000 Air you can store programmes for various different surgical procedures, including sinus lift with implant placement, bone splitting with implant placement or implanting in accordance with the manufacturer's instructions for the implant system being used.
Alternative mode
You can also use all functions, such as data communication or reciprocal bone treatment, in manual mode – i.e. without any configured programme.

Implantology brilliance
KaVo INTRAsurg 1000 / 1000 Air is equipped with the proven, powerful motor INTRA-LUX SL 550. The available straight and contra-angle handpieces with illumination meet all implant surgery requirements and their attachment is automatically detected by the motor.
Naturally, SONICflex is also equipped with this important feature, bringing light to even the most remote areas of the mouth. The perfect accessory for precision dental work.
A complete implant procedure can thus be carried out; from preparation of the implant cavity to fixing of the implant.

The implant cleaning tip
Clinical requirement: Subgingival
cleaning of the smooth neck areas of predominantly titanium
implants. Special tips are therefore required when professionally
cleaning the teeth of patients with implants. Conventional,
tempered steel scaler tips are hard and may damage the soft
titanium on the surface, which encourages a swift build-up
of plaque.

You will always retain a clear overview of what you are doing, even in areas which are difficult to see, thanks to the optimum illumination provided by the KaVo SONICflex 2003 L.
The SONICflex 2003 L handpiece is connected to the INTRAsurg 1000 Air via the air instrument hose.

Rotational + reciprocal = optimum action
Motor-driven rotational bone procedures are quick and powerful.Air-driven
reciprocal bone preparation is precise, controlled and gentle on tissue
and nerves; a very useful choice to have within implant surgery. In
an ideal world, it would be easy to switch between the two modes. And
with KaVo INTRAsurg 1000 Air, it is; only when used in combination can
the two modes really show their strengths to full advantage.
For a sinus lift, for instance, the bone window can now be pre-prepared
rotationally and completed reciprocally. This significantly reduces the
risk of injuring the Schneider's membrane, which can be subsequently
detached from the bone using the appropriate tip. The user then
switches the motor back to rotational action to prepare the implant
cavity. The combination of these technologies ensures shorter treatment
times and reduces risk and trauma for the patient.
Intelligent motor control

Torque: 300 - 12,000 rpm at 5.5 Ncm.

Use
The advantage of this tip is that you only need one instrument to release the membrane.
Hold the tip against the membrane of the prepared bony window and start to carefully move it inwards.
Continue in this way to dig beneath the membrane and release it from the bony wall of the sinus as far as is required for the sinus lift. Then luxate the membrane with the bone lid in a cranial direction.
Use
Following exposure of the facial wall of the maxillary sinus, use the diamond burr to prepare the bony window (do not exert pressure).
If the osteons are very thick, we recommend using the rotating diamond burr for preliminary treatment of the outer compacta. Then use the diamond burr to prepare the bone near to the membrane.
Use
Remaining root
Use the tip like a periotome: Work the root residue in circular movements, digging deeper with the four-edged tip. This will expand the alveoli and cut through the Sharpey’s fibres.
Non-invasive extraction prior to implantation
When treating teeth with multiple roots, you need to separate the roots carefully using a rotating instrument. Once you have done this, work around each root digging downwards in circular movements.
Osteotomy
Place the tip at a slight angle (as when screwing) on the surface of the bone (do not exert pressure), and move backwards and forwards in the required gap path. If the bone you are treating is very hard, use a thin rotating Lindemann burr to remove the outer compacta around the osteotomy gap.
The high oscillation amplitude facilitates effective and precise incisions. It can be set to 120, 160 or 240 µm easily using the ring switch on the KaVo SONICflex 2003 L handpiece. The elliptical motion of the tips means that you can work in any direction. The SONICflex oscillates at 6 kHz and thereby minimises the overheating of the surrounding tissue.
To simplify surgery, a program can be preprogrammed (rotating and oscillating) for the KaVo INTRAsurg 1000 Air. You can easily switch between the programs using the foot control.

With KaVo’s SONICflex bone set, you can easily access new and minimally invasive forms of treatment.
The KaVo SONICflex bone set has 5 tips for all manner of applications. It can be used for oscillating osteotomies (e.g. distraction) and bone splitting, as well as for the minimally invasive removal of teeth and root residue. Moreover, it increases safety in the context of external sinus lifts.
Case documentation
The series of images shows an example of how the four-edged tip can be used for the minimally invasive extraction of a hemisectioned tooth with apical foci.
Pictures: Dr. F. Heinemann, Morsbach
Case documentation
The pre-operative x-ray reveals the extremely restricted amount of vertical bone in the left posterior maxilla.
Since a subsequent implantation was intended, an external sinus lift was performed to increase the amount of bone.
In this case, a rotating instrument was used for preliminary treatment. The remaining bone around the osteotomy line was then removed and smoothed with the diamond burr.
Pictures: Dr. Dr. S.-H. Gnoth, Cologne
Case documentation
Once the bony sinus window has been prepared, the Schneider’s membrane is carefully removed. The membrane was completely undermined in the caudal region and luxated in a cranial direction.
The subantral space gained by means of this process is filled with bone substitute and sealed with a resorbable membrane.
The post-operative x-ray reveals the significant lift of the sinus floor by means of the augmentation (the pre-operative X-ray appears above in the section describing the diamond burr tip).
